Therabill is capable of integrating a credit card payment gateway directly into your Therabill account allowing you to accept credit card payments from your patients (or anyone else) directly from within Therabill.
What is a payment gateway?
There are two main methods for starting a credit card payment transactions (credit card terminals and virtual terminals). There are the credit card terminals that you swipe your card through at the local supermarket. When accepting payments over the internet, a credit card terminal is not a feasible solution. To accept credit cards over the internet you need a virtual terminal (payment gateway). A payment gateway is basically a virtual credit card swiper. It is an application that allows you to enter credit card information into a web form to obtain payment.
What is a merchant account?
A merchant account is a type of bank account that allows businesses to accept payments by debit or credit cards. For example, Chase has Paymentech. You can go to Chase and open a merchant account. This is the account where funds will be deposited into. The merchant account will charge you transaction fees and / or a percentage of all transaction amounts. These fees are on top of the payment gateway fees.
Should you accept credit cards?
You will notice that there are a lot of fees involved with accepting credit cards. Yes, accepting credit cards comes at a cost. What you have to determine is if accepting credit cards will boost your revenue enough to cover the additional fees.
Additional Therabill Fees
If it were up to TheraBill, we would offer the payment gateway without any new fee's. Unfortunately, third-parties are involved and TheraBill must pass the fee's that they charge onto the user. There is no doubt about it, it is not cheap to accept credit card payments. There are additional fee's involved with the payment gateway (see Gateway Fee's at right of this page). The gateway fee's are on top of any fee's that your merchant account will charge you.
TheraBill does offer the ability for you to offset the additional cost of accepting credit cards by letting you decide if you want to charge your customers a convenience fee when paying by credit card.
What you will need to do
To accept credit cards you need to have a merchant account. If you do not already have a merchant account, TheraBill can point you towards one. However, Therabill does not endorse any specific merchant account. Talk to TheraBill before you get your merchant account, there are
some requirements.
Once you have your merchant account, let Therabill know and we will begin integrating the payment gateway into your account. The integration process usually only takes 24-48 hours.
