Patient Invoices and Billing Statements

Therabill offers two methods when it comes to billing your patients directly for your therapy services. The two methods that Therabill offers are called client invoicing and client billing statements. The two methods can be used separately, or use client billing statements to enhance your patient invoices.
Client Invoicing
Client invoicing allows you to decide which therapy sessions to invoice to your client. Each invoice you create is assigned an invoice ID and stored in your client invoice filing cabinet. The invoicing system tracks the invoiced balance due (which is the new balance due on the last invoice you create for a given client) and ensures that you do not double bill the client for the same therapy session. Client invoices in Therabill are much like statements that you might receive from your bank or your credit cards. Each invoice has a previous balance (which is carried over from the new balance on the last invoice you created for the client). The invoice then lists any new charges and payments applied to come up with a new balance due. In return, this new balance due will become the previous balance on the next invoice you create for the patient.

Client Billing Statements
Client billing statements is the easiest and preferred method for billing your patient directly for therapy services. With client billing statements, you simply provide a date range. All therapy services are displayed that have a date of service within the specified date range. Each therapy session lists the amount charged for the therapy session and a break down of payments applied towards the therapy sessions. You can create a client statement at any time for any date range. Most members use client statements as their main method for billing their patients, however, it can also be used as a supplemental statement sent with client invoices.

A Client Billing Idea
A new trend is arising among Therabill members who do not bill insurance and use Therabill only for direct billing of their patients for therapy services. A lot of these members do not want to deal with insurance claims but have seen how easy it is to create the insurance claims using Therabill. A lot of these members are beginning to create the initial insurance claim form for the patient. They will then send the patient either their client invoice or statement along with the CMS-1500 HCFA claim forms that the patient can then use to submit to the insurance companies for reimbursement. Some of these same providers have even begun to submit the inital insurance claim electronically on behalf of the patient.
